Abstract

This condensed study discusses the reasons that led the Arab states to opt to control their oil production and impose sanctions on exporting oil to some western nations, due to their pro-Israel stance in the crisis following the October 1973 Arab-Israeli war. The study demonstrates the legitimacy of the measures taken, based on international norms, and international resolutions and agreements. It argues that the boycott was a legitimate instrument under international law, due to the inability of international organizations to enforce international law concerning the Arab-Israeli conflict.
