Biography | In 1993, and per the recommendation of the General Conference of UNESCO, the United Nations General Assembly declared May 3rd to be World Press Freedom Day. On this occasion, we publish a biography of Sadhij Nassar, a pioneering female journalist in Palestine, who in 1926 commenced writing a column in the daily al-Karmel newspaper titled "The Women's Section." Nassar was the first Palestinian woman to be arrested by the British Mandate authorities for her patriotic activities.
