Biography | On April 16, 1988, soldiers from an Israeli military unit called Sayeret Matkal, raided the house of Khalil al-Wazir (Abu Jihad) in Tunis and assassinated him. This was in response to the main role he played in directing the popular uprising that broke out in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip in December 1987. Khalil al-Wazir was one of the early founders of "Fatah" and a member of its central committee. For many years he held the position of deputy .commander-in-chief of the Palestinian revolution forces.
