Biography| Anis Sayigh, born in Tiberias, was a prominent intellectual and historian and was concerned to safeguard the Palestinian collective memory. He was associated with the PLO  Research Center, the Palestinian Encyclopedia, and with many Palestinian and Arab intellectual journals. Israel was alarmed by his academic work, as by staunch Palestinian resisters,  and it attempted to assassinate him in 1972 through a letter bomb that resulted in a partial loss of his eyesight and the loss of one of his fingers, but that did not stop his prolific intellectual production.
